Writing Support Services
The billing and time schedule for the work can vary, and will depend entirely on the quality of the client’s initial materials. If the author provides a rough, but content-comprehensive draft to be rewritten, the order can be billed as a superior-level edit with turnarounds in the editing-translation range. If the editor determines that more content is needed, clear prompts for missing content will be indicated, including direct indication of citation sources, and provision of all source materials. Many small projects (e.g. case reports, letters, etc.) are completed within this editing schedule. When more content is needed, more extensive science editing services can establish organization, identify and/or retrieve appropriate resources. All work requiring additional time to complete the additional work expected will double the editing schedule.
Scientific Editing Services
Scientific editing services are broken into three categories: Standard, Premium and Superior.
A Standard edit includes editing for English presentation with correct grammar and syntax. The logical flow within paragraphs may be adjusted to improve the style, and supported with field standard jargon and economical word use. Margin comments may be provided to suggest additional opportunities for improvement. For most papers where non-native language is the primary issue, the standard edit is usually sufficient.
A Premium edit includes everything in the standard edit and any additional as-needed services for individual cases. These science editing services can include major revision/rewriting, better adherence to formatting instructions if needed, a review of organizational problems and correction, and a check and removal of redundancy. The document can also be reformatted with aesthetic/structural revision of tables and/or figures, as well as a substantial (>10%) length reduction for editing into smaller formats. Redeveloping the document into a different format can sometimes require the editor to spend up to 200% standard edit time for 150% cost, which makes the Premium edit a great value.
While a Superior edit is similar to the Premium edit service, an additional allowance for time (per quarter hour) permits more extensive science writing services, and a time cap can be specified so the editor would seek approval before spending more time.
