If we are still dealing with the same originally submitted text, we consider the work a continuation of the original editing work. Situations that are appropriate for a Recheck order include:

• Answering the editor’s questions in the margin comments, so that the editor can finalize the edit.
• Providing clarification of any issue that the editor misunderstood in the original edit, so that the editor can revise the edit accordingly.
• A concern that any aspect of the original order (not beyond the scope of the original order) was not fulfilled.

You will use the Order Creation form to resubmit it to us for a recheck so that it can be properly assigned to the editor and tracked in the order processing system, but there is no cost. Choose the option “Recheck of specified, clarified items” in the Order Creation form to order this type of follow-up.

Follow-up editing of selected text

Commonly, authors need to make revisions postediting. This follow-up option is appropriate if the scope of postedit changes is relatively circumscribed, and the editor can check only selected pieces of text (indicated with a margin comment or highlighting) without reviewing the whole paper. Typical examples of follow-up editing of selected text include:

• The addition of rewriting of sentences or paragraphs in response to co-authors’ or advisors’ advice.
• Changes or additions due to authors realizing something was missing or incorrect.
• The addition of rewriting of sentences or paragraphs to address reviewer comments.

Any sections that have been changed postediting (either before submission or in response to reviewer requests) are counted for invoicing. For example, if you add a new 100-word paragraph, then you would pay the charges for only 100 words.

If ≥70% of the sentences in your paper have been changed, we will automatically convert a Follow-up editing of selected text service to a Full document re-edit (see below) to give you the best value for your money. That is, if you have a 1000-word paper, and you are ordering 700+ words of follow-up editing, it is the same price to just have a full document re-edit. If we find that 40–70% of the sentences in your paper have been changed, we’ll ask you if you want a full document re-edit because, in most cases, it is the most prudent way to proceed.

Full document re-edit

If you do a substantial revision of your paper, then you should request a “full document re-edit”, which is charged at 70% standard rates (see pricing page). A full document re-edit enables the editor to reconsider your manuscript as a whole.
